| no partners | | A while back a friend and I had planned on hiking Picacho Peak on this day. Turns out we planned it in the middle of spring break so we adjusted our plan so his daughter could go with us. It became a cave trip. First stop was Colossal Cave and second stop was Kartchner Caverns.
I had been to Colossal cave a few times in the past, but it was still enjoyable. We also did the nature hike, and then the offshoot that goes down the hill to the camping area and then back up. Nice desert area and the temps were perfect. I think the highlight here was we saw a bunch of coatimundi right outside the cave. The tour guide told us that they live in the front part of the cave and are responsible for the funky smell right inside the entrance.
Kartchner Caverns was new to me and I was really looking forward to it. We had booked the Big room tour. The whole set up they have there at the state park is pretty nice. I was really impressed with the cave. Its quite a step up from Colossal. Even entering the cave is cool, makes you think you are going into some secret underground layer with all the doors! The history and all the finds in the cave are cool, the guide does a good job here. They don't allow pictures of videos, well unless you pay for the $125 photo tour. |
