After finishing the Bennett Pass 4x4 route I followed the signs a short distance further to check out Lookout Mountain. I was pleasantly surprised to find a nicely groomed gravel parking lot with clean pit toilet and informational trail signs and a map.

The sky still looked extremely threatening with giant thunderheads and distant booming in the distance, but the temperature was actually quite pleasant. The trail crosses a small meadow before it enters the forest and climbs up to Lookout Mountain. The views from the top are FANTASTIC! The views stretch for miles in every direction and gnarly wind swept white bark pines help frame the many views. I had the trail to myself and sat on the summit for longer than usual just in awe of the view. For such a simple hike this one really took my breath away.
