Hit the trail at sunrise, parked across the street with an Adventure Pass to avoid the extra, dumb fee for the primary lot. Great views of Mount Baldy's backside, Mojave Desert, the south end of the Sierras, and what I presume is Telescope Peak way out in the distance. Views into the Inland Empire were shrouded by a fog/haze inversion - a bittersweet, yet cool effect.

The return trip is a smooth cruise thanks to the switchbacks. It's a great trail. Route Scout was all over the place - my route looked like it was traced by someone going through withdrawal. Admittedly, I never use it on airplane mode so that's my fault. I cleaned it up a bit and the mileage is still 1mi+ longer than the advertised 8mi.

Quick getaway to the San Gabriels. I wanted to do Mt Baden-Powell last time i came here but the angeles crest highway was closed due to a huge rock slide.

This is a classic summit in the San Gabes topping out at nearly 9400, i think it's the 4th highest in the range. beautiful forested switchback ascent. tops out on a cool exposed ridgeline heading out to a big open exposed summit.

heavy combination of smoke/haze and some clouds limited distant views quite a bit and gave a kind of weird feel to the hike. got rained on both on the way up and down but no lightning (until the drive out briefly).

awesome hike for sure.
