Relentless swithbacks up the grass- and brush-covered lower slopes with views out over the valley, then into the pines and past a spring to the scenic Outlaw Cabin. After the cabin the official trail ends and the route continues up on a cairned and mostly obvious route up the left side of the upper cirque to the summit ridge, with some Class 3/4 scrambling to the peak.
We returned via an off-trail route which connected to the upper end of Trail of the Eagle - not recommended due to lots of steep scrambling and heavy overgrowth on upper TOTE.
Jacobs Ladder Trail is the other popular route to climb Lone Peak. |
