| no partners | | Great Canyon!! Easy approach from Loy Canyon Trail some scrambling. The views where amazing crystal clear day and temps in the 50's.
All anchors are in great condition, no pull issues. Some Very light flow, just enough to soak our rope.
I do agree some of the starts are tricky but easy to figure out (hip slide).
Great one to just enjoy. |

| no partners | | Really enjoyed Hang 'Em High. An easy dry canyoneering route with some big raps and stellar views. GPS track can be found on ropewiki: http://ropewiki.com/Hang_%27Em_High_(Sedona). Here are my notes on the raps:
R1: 100ft (used single 60M rope). Spicy overhanging start
R2: Used 2 60M ropes. We descended option 1 from Ropewiki description. Could be done in one shot, though we utilized used an intermediate belay to avoid stuck roper potential.
R3: Used 2 60M ropes. Second half is the beautiful slick rock bowl shown in banner photo on rope wiki
R4: Short rap off a large block. Used single 60M
R5: Another double 60M rope rap. Last person down needs to lay the rope carefully to avoid constrictions during the rope pull
Super fun day! |

| no partners | | After spending all day Friday making small talk at a work event (an introvert's worst nightmare ), I could not wait to get out of town and into more peaceful surroundings. After camping out under an orange moon, we met up with some friends the next morning to check out Hang 'em High, a fun cliff route off of the Loy Canyon TH.
The approach starts off on the trail and then quickly turns into a bit of a thrash as you route-find your way through the brush and into the cliffs above. The canyon itself is a series of overhanging ledges that curve down into really pretty grottos with a few short narrow sections and stellar views the entire way. All rappels except the very last have awkward overhanging edges for which there is no graceful way to maneuver down.
For the exit we took the path of least resistance back to the TH. Couldn’t pass up stopping in Page Springs on the way home for a nice glass of AZ red. A great way to end an already wonderful day with excellent company. |
