Cienega Creek from the Arizona Trail to the Bridge at Vail along Cienega Creek and Pantano Wash. This is a hike I have been wanting to do for at least 30 years since I moved out in this area. This hike was more than I expected, very interesting scenery with two riparian areas. If you love trains this is the hike to do. The east bound track pretty much follows just to the south of the route. Lots of sand walking. In the areas where the water was flowing the walking is easy, other areas the sand was hard pack and again easy walking then there were those stretches that were soft sand and a real work out. Saw a raccoon running across the wash in one of the riparian areas. When we finished the hike, right at sunset, we headed to the train bridges to check out a train heading west going over the upper bridge, then waited a bit longer to watch an east bound train head through the pass. What a nice ending to an afternoon of hiking. Took some real neat videos of these trains but since I don't have U tube, still photos will have to do. |
