Bused up to the park this morning. Made one trip around the lake. Nothing real exciting happening. Ring Necked Ducks still around. Pair of Cormorants on the shore along with a good size turtle.

Time for another trip to Pioneer Park. I wish the westbound Glendale Ave. bus ran earlier on the weekends. A 7:30 start in this heat is no fun. The park has not been exciting for me lately. Last year I saw juvenile Black Crowned Night Herons and Killdeer. I have not seen a Green Heron or a Great Blue Heron in months. It had been a tiring week so my legs and the heat were good for just one trip around the lake. So I hope that you enjoy what I came up with.

A rare weekday visit to the park which meant that I could get there earlier than usual. Nothing much happening today. I have not seen a Green Heron or a Great Blue in a while. The past few weeks there has been just one lone Black Crowned Night Heron. The thing that has me stumped is that females and young ducklings show up then are gone the next week when I come by. I know that predation by other species is common but that would mean a lot of bad luck for the little ones. A female and eight "teenagers" showed up some time ago and are still there. also managed to get some shots of a Costa's Hummingbird.

Whenever I go out with my camera it is with the hope that maybe a little something out of the ordinary will be present. Today I was rewarded with the sight of 7 newly hatched ducklings together with mom on the boat ramp. So cute! The rest of the morning was ordinary with one Black Crowned Night Heron in attendance. Though I wished him luck trying to see any fish through all of the green gunk that has sprouted up in recent weeks.

Time to check back in at the park hoping to see some little ones and I did! A quartet of ducklings were fun to watch as they swam around. 2 or 3 Black Crowned Night Herons were present. Lots of people out trying their luck on a beautiful morning.

It has been a few weeks since I have visited so it was time to stop by and see what was happening. After a mishap with a patch of mud I made my way around the lake. No Herons this morning, no ducklings yet either. I found some beautiful prickly pear cactus blooms along with ocotillo blooms. A lone Ruddy Duck was in the lake and I saw a Brewer's Blackbird. A Curve Billed Thrasher made an appearance. Overall a nice morning.

Feeling much better after a stay in the hospital last week with pneumonia a trip to the park was in order. As soon as I arrived I saw an Osprey flying over the lake but he quickly flew out of view. A few Black Crowned Night Herons were present perched on the lightposts. Then I spotted a Great Blue Heron patrolling the shore. Watched it snag a small fish. Later I observed a Cormorant trying to gulp down a big one while fending off some of it's friends. No ducklings present yet, hope to see some soon. A good morning.

Early morning bus ride over to the park. Not much happening until I went to check something perched in the old tree just outside the park. As I got closer I saw black and white, yes! the osprey was back. It made a couple of trips over the lake before heading off. I plan to keep an eye on the park into the spring hoping to see some ducklings.

Made an early morning bus ride to Pioneer Park this morning. First sighting was a Green Heron. A few Ring Necked Ducks present. As I finished my trip around the lake I spotted something on a lightpost by the road. As I got closer saw that it was a Kestrel which then flew to a nearby tree. I was able to get over and get some shots. Then I started to go around the lake again. The Green Heron was still in the same spot. As I looked out at the lake I saw a lot of white on something and discovered that it was a Bufflehead male. So I spent the next few minutes trying to get a good shot which was difficult as it stayed in the middle of the lake.

Undertook a morning excursion via the bus to the park. Had a nice time checking out the usual suspects and visiting Green Heron, Ring Necked Duck and the Egyptian Goose had come back.

An after work trip to Pioneer Park was a pleasant stroll under overcast skies. This mornings subjects were a young Black Crowned Night Heron, a Killdeer and the lone duckling that is still present.

A stop at Pioneer Park this morning after work had me temporarily renaming it Heron Park as I saw three different species of herons and in one case 3 different growth stages.

Stopped by Pioneer Park after work this morning. Saw the first Green Heron that I have seen in a while. Also watched a Great Blue Heron and got pics of a Black Crowned Night Heron along with other locals.

Took in both parks today as they are separated by a short drive on 83rd Avenue. Was thrilled when I spotted an osprey as soon as I drove into Pioneer Park. The rest of the beautiful morning yielded some good pictures.

Earlier this week I checked out the new Paloma Park in North Peoria, very nice. today I ventured over to Pioneer Community Park in the heart of Peoria. Another nice park with a small fishing lake. My time was rewarded with watching a Great Blue Heron for a while as I walked around the lake. Otherwise no great shakes as far as bird sightings go but I will check back from time to time.
