| partners | | On our second day at Brazos Bend State Park we did the trails of the Northeast section of the park. This loop hike starts out going north along the Brazos River then west along the north boundary of the park then south along Bayou creek and Big Creek to the start point. Like most all trails in the park it is along a dirt service road. The trails on this hike are:
White Oak Trail
Franky's Dam Trail
River Trail
Yellowstone Landing Trail
Sawmill Trail
Bayou Trail
Bluestem Trail
There are many large impressive oaks and pecan Trees along these trails especially along the White Oak Trail. Franky's Dam and River Trail follow along the Brazos but views of the river are rare because of the trees unless you go off trail 30 yards or so. The Yellowstone Landing Trail at the end of the river Trail goes down to the Brazos River. We took a lunch break there along the river. It was nice to see clear running water instead of murky swamp water. The Sawmill Trail runs along the north boundary of the park and parallels a dirt road, not to very interesting but necessary to complete the loop. The Bayou and Bluestem Trails were a little more scenic but not by much. What made these trails more interesting was that we were on them at sunset and offered great photo opportunities. All of these trails are in a more remote area of the park and therefore less people. These are trails designated for horseback riding and looks like the entrance for horse trailers is on the north side at Yellowstone Landing. Don't take these trails if you are looking for wild life those were more in the area around Elm Lake and Creekfield Lake. We did see a white tailed deer and an Armadillo crossed the trail in front of me. Armadillos aren't flat things in the road, who would of thought. |
