Got to the TH around 7am. Noticed two cars that were parked in the exact same spot as my last visit, (10 days ago). Looks like they may be semi permanent car campers. The use trails that I wanted to check out was at the back end of the Sunset Loop trail. Hiked in on the Cedar Knoll and then took the north leg of the Sunset to reach the use trail. It was about 1.5 miles from the TH. The trail seemed to be more of a game trail. Didn’t look like it got too much foot action. Still, as anticipated, it did connect to the Elmore Wash Trail about .6 miles later. Took the Elmore back to the Sunset and then continued on the Sunset to the Cedar Knoll Trail. Hit two more use trails, which were basically connector trails on the way back to the TH. Nothing too surprising. Did see one deer and one very fat jackrabbit. Encountered 1 hiker. Very chilly. Temps were in the 40’s and a strong breeze made it feel even colder. |
