Since originally writing up this easy to navigate, but completely off-trail Hike Guide in June 2022, I thought it would be a good idea to validate my Hike Guide "official" Gps Route and also while vehicle camping in this area for a week, a pleasant way to spend a short hike day in this very scenic area of our Mogollon Rim - Cabin Loop area. I reconfirmed both today! :)

Also, on this second 9/4 hike, I posted a "driving" Gps Route to the Hike Guide [ Drive to Park-TH Start FM FR300-FR95 :: map ] which details with key waypoints the one way ~2.4mls FR95 drive from FR300/FR95 to the recommended off-road Park Location.

My Texas Granddaughter and University of Arkansas Junior Year Nursing Student (Fall'22) was able to spend a second year this June'22 visiting me for a full week.

We had originally planned another Camp Grasshopper- Mogollon Rim Vehicle Camping and Hiking week trip, but this year I only had one vehicle and needed two vehicles to again pull-off our planned trip. I decided a good option was to plan some scenic AZ day drive trips and day hikes instead of vehicle camping. We would take one day off between each day trip. Our plan would allow for three (3) of my favorite AZ day outing areas.

This "BearCynUpr at E Bear to W BearLwr-Mogollon Rim" drive and hike was our third planned day outing and would be my fourth (4th) attempt through the years of trying to locate a suitable and easy to navigate off-trail hiking route access to this beautiful, scenic, perennial, and riparian section of Upper Bear Canyon. This 4th attempt turned out to be a winner, so now this new off-trail access and hike area is documented via our official new HAZ Hike Guide so any qualified and interested others can now also enjoy :) If I were still "backpack camping", I would personally plan a hiking and weekend backpack camping trip here and if I had younger kids learning to backpack, this would be a great area for them as well! The short distance off-trail downhill from FR95 -350ft then back up +350ft to FR95 must be taken into consideration but should be safely doable with a little adult supervision.

I should also mention that the thirteen (13) mile drive down FR300 (The Rim Road) to the intersection of FR95 is presently in the best condition that I have ever witnessed.. and I have driven it too many times to count through the past years. Road conditions can change rapidly now with the onset of our Monsoon Season in July and August'22, but as of this triplog date, this 13 mile drive section is a 👍

Grasshopper
HELLO HIKERS! this is my first ever triplog and im so excited to share it with Grasshopper:)

Starting off the hike, it was pretty chilly. I had on a couple of layers of jackets that came off about ten minutes into the hike down into bear canyon. This was Grasshoppers fourth attempt to find an easy route into bear canyon and boy did we! The whole way down was guided by animal paths making it an easy decent (coming back up took a little more effort as we were TIRED). Upon arrival into bear canyon, we skipped rocks across a beautiful (what I would consider a) pond. There were so many butterflies! I was actually able to slowly approach one and whisk it away on my finger! Grasshopper was jussssst a little too slow to get the picture, but the memory counts more. I believe it was a Weidemeyer's Admiral. In the forecast for the day was the first monsoon of the season!!! I was so excited to hike in the rain and get the full Arizona experience! Around 11:39am, we had to put on our ponchos as Grasshopper advised the rain can come down fast, hard, and out of nowhere. You really don't want to get caught in it and get your pack soaked. My poncho was an adult size large and bright red, needless to say I felt like some version of Little Red Riding Hood. We kept making jokes that I might catch wind and Mother Nature would then whisk ME away! Luckily I stayed planted to the Earth. The rain came off and on and only really came down hard for a couple of minutes around 11:58. I got a super cool video of the raindrops falling! We made out way back to the water where we first skipped rocks to enjoy lunch before we began our uphill climb. According to the timestamps on my photos, we began climbing around 12:52 and both Grasshopper and I were back at the vehicle at 1:29! I made it up a little before him because I ended up having some extra energy and decided to run up the last bit (bad idea I felt like I was going to die after... okay that's a little dramatic but I was mega tired! 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND RUNNING UP THE HILL). Grasshopper and I took a couple more picture before we began our drive across the Mogollon Rim, through Strawberry and Payson, and back to our humble home. all in all, this hike was very doable and full of fun memories and new experiences!

Well, this concludes my first triplog! hope you enjoyed and were able to feel my happiness and excitement though my words:)
