One more fun thing in Ouray. This was a quick little walk up some metal stairs and then a trail to a great overlook of Box Canyon Falls.

Popped over to see if falls were going. Had to hike up from town since the road was closed and the park wasn't open you.

Well worth the price for parking. The tunnel was awesome and the walk to the bottom of the Falls was amazing. It was a little busy since it was the 4th but not so busy you didn't get to experience the falls.

Took a Break from Technical Canyons in Ouray due to a bum Hand. Spent the Day just Dinking around Ouray basically, with the Exception of a short Trip to Ridgway. Explored some Side Roads and County Roads a bit and then went to check out the Falls...It was threatening to Rain and by the Time I hit the Parking Lot, it made good on it's Threat...I decided to check it out anyway.

This is a City Park and there's a 4.00 Charge for Admission. So I Paid, got some really helpful Information on a Specific Bird from the Ranger and off I went...There are 3 Trails you can take...1) Takes you to the Base of the Falls and slightly above it via a Catwalk... 2) Takes you up to a High Bridge overlooking Canyon Creek. According to the Ranger, you can not see the Falls from that Location. 3)A Short Nature Trail that Loops around.

I did 1 and 3....I'll save 2 for another Time when there was less Rain...The Falls were Interesting...you could really only catch a Glimpse of the Falls as they are behind a partial Wall, but you can hear them and you get all the Mist. I'm not sure that you could see the Entire Fall even if it was allowed...You would have to Scramble through the Water above a Small Fall and then maybe, if physically Possible, Peek around the Wall...But I'm betting that with the Water coming down in that Semi-Confined Space, you wouldn't even be able to do that... Since it was Raining, it was pretty Dark in the Box itself, but I did what I could to get Photos...

Interesting Stop and glad I did it on a Weekend Day, Rain and all...I actually had stopped by there on Saturday and the Place was absolutely Packed...a Thursday was much better and the Rain definitely shut it down even more... Will do this one again someday and spend more Time... :)

After the Upper Cascade Trail we went over to the Ice Climbing area and walked over to the Box Canyon Falls. The Ice Climbing canyon looks like so much fun! The Box Canyon area had a lot of ice but wasn’t an issue. We walked to the end of grates and then dropped down to the bottom of the falls. This was a real treat because I didn’t think this “hike” was doable in February. The entire area is experiencing a heat wave. This is definitely worth checking out if you have an hour to kill.

After out little hike I suggested checking out the ice park. From an overlook we paused and watched some ice climbers in action and then continued on to Box Canyon. I had visited last time I was in Ouray~. Its just a neat area with easy access. Worth a visit. ~

This is a must see Fall's if in the area. There is a $4.00 fee but well worth it.

After an amazing backpacking trip outside of Silverton, we rolled into Ouray and hit this Box Canyon hike and boy was it worth every penny of the $3 entry fee! :y: The easy walk along the guardrails & catwalk to the falls is quite amazing and then you can descend some stairs down to the falls & creek. On the way back out, we took the high bridge trail to (you guessed it) that high bridge way up above the falls for an even more amazing view of beautiful Ouray and the sweet box canyon down below us. We took the trail thru a tunnel and it continued on as part of the intriguing 4-mile perimeter trail before dropping back down the the cars. Afterwards we rolled to the other side of town for that Lower Cascade Falls and enjoyed those beautiful falls before ended the day by soaking in the Ouray Hot Springs pool. :D

Switzerland of USA- Ouray, Colorado..

Where can one enjoy more area above 10,000ft elevation than anywhere else in the Continental USA and so many 13,000+ ft peaks that many of them are not even named yet? Where can one enjoy the wonderful tree aromas of the December Holiday Season in July? Where in July can one witness a wildflower season of flowers chest high?..This is the San Juan Mountain Range in SW Colorado. I had the pleasure to recently spend 8 wonderful days(7/14-7/21) hiking in this SJ Mtn Range around the Ouray and Telluride,CO areas. With a hiking group, I did a total of 10 hikes in this 8 day period.

Saturday-7/14 was my 1st of 4 full days in Ouray,CO, located in a long, narrow lush mountain valley at 7800' surrounded by high mountain peaks. Box Canyon Falls was 1 of 3 local hikes in and just south of Ouray this 1st day to better accumulate for the higher altitude hikes still yet to come :)

If you are in Ouray and have not seen Box Canyon Falls, consider it a must! At this most spectacular geological formation, a 285' waterfall (with walls overhanging the falls by 100') plummets into a narrow quartzite canyon to Canyon Creek which runs through Ouray. The Ouray Ice Park, located within Box Canyon provides unique winter climbing opportunities.. http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=230442 , and a chance to view world-class ice climbing competition.
