Tried a different route than Boschert Greenway. It ended up being all streets and sidewalks for most of the two miles. The last .4 miles to the park ended being a bike path.
Once you get to Dusable Park you have a few options. The Katy Trail, a 240 mile trail that runs through much of Missouri and runs past the Dusable Park. It is a 10ft wide dirt bike path that parallels the Missouri for a time. This trail is straight, flat and uninspiring. But because of its straightness, you do cover some territory and have the ability to connect to other trails in the area. I used the Katy Trail for very short segments (less than .25 miles all together) to connect to the Dusable Trails that meander through the woods. There are quite a few threads that make up the trails. The best way to envision the trails is as two parallel tracks that border the Missouri River with about 6 connector trails running between the two parallel tracks. Because of the time year, the woods, though thick, were barren with little leave coverage. I imagine summertime would provide a much different experience. The tracks that were directly adjacent to the Missouri were narrower and more intimate than the other trails which were 5 ft wide swaths. I did quite a bit zigzagging and retracing trying to capture all the trails in the park. Maybe two miles worth. Nice for the most part with the exception for the trails directly under the 370 highway. Worked my way north to south. Came out around where the Boschert Greenway Trail starts and took that back to Fox Hills Park.
Surprisingly little wildlife in the woods. Couple of squirrels and the sounds of birds was it. Saw four trail runners on the Katy and one dog walker in the woods. Great weather again. |
