| partners | | Somehow, I've explored all over this state over the past 35 years, but have never set eyes on the majestic Black Canyon Lake. Perhaps some of that was because it took a pretty severe hit in the 2002 Rodeo Chediski Fire. It's not the largest of the rim reservoirs but it's still a scenic enough little canyon worth the mile and a half loop.
There's not really a loop though. A trail on each shore ends at the far end of the lake where a band of rocks provides an obstacle. The lake level was low enough today to walk below the rock band. At full water you'd have to scramble up the cliff next to the dam and traverse above the rock band. This isn't something that every hiker would be able to do (or enjoy). No problems for us today though.
It began to rain as we finished up the loop which was a nice respite after two dry days of 80% chance. ](https://hikearizona.com/dex2/images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif) |
