| no partners | | I've only known about this peak for a few weeks. We hiked almost everything else in the Tucson mountains and needed a new early morning challenge. I plotted a route the other day which looked like there was a fairly good road/trail for 90% of the hike. Brian, Tim, and myself set out to attempt this hike. The road turned into a trail after seeing the foundation for a house. The trail got pretty faint quickly and turned into a steep bushwhack. After 3.3 miles total (over 90% of the hike), Tim decided to turn back because the climb was more than he expected. Brian and I finished the last 0.3 miles in another 20 minutes or so. There were 2 sections that involved some rock climbing which some hikers/non-climbers are not comfortable with. Since Brian and I had experience with a lot of Arizona bushwhacks and rock climbs, we plowed ahead and conquered this hike. We found some old log entries from the late 90s, took some photos from the top, and drank some water & had some snacks to prepare for the hot hike down. I believe the Tucson high temp was 97. On the way down we found a concrete dam in the canyon area and stopped to take a few photos.

Trash found: an old torn up pinata, some balloons right near the start of the Ringtail trailhead. Whoever is having parties here needs to pick up their trash... |
