No visitor center or park pass needed for this site. Located just off a ranch road with zero parking. I’m sure the rancher who owns the adjacent land is not thrilled. This is an ancient Native American ruin which has only one partial built wall standing. Otherwise, there are numerous mounds of dirt and piles of rock indicating where other structures might have been. Wife and I had a fun time walking the area. Saw numerous pottery shards and even a few fragments of prehistoric fossils. There was stream crossing we had to negotiate (twice) as we climbed a nearby hill.
Later in the day we talked with a Ranger at Mesa Verde and they said that the wall that is visible had been uncovered and the upper part rebuilt. She also said that it is believed that the Yucca Ruins, if uncovered, would be very similar to the Aztec Ruins National Monument near Farmington. |
