Lesson learned: when someone sends you "climbers," find out what their definition of the word is.. this trip could have easily resulted in disaster thanks to a horrible combination of ignorance, arrogance, and ego. When it comes to climbing, if you don't know, then ASK. And if a veteran climber is talking to you about safety -- LISTEN.

My lack of confidence in the people I climbed with resulted in a total lack of interest in climbing that day. Attempted to lead Deadbolt but only made it halfway up as I didn't have complete confidence in myself or in my belayer. She's a good belayer from what I've seen, but the anxiety from keeping track of the other climbers was clouding my spirit. I bailed and then cleaned Tropical People. Later on, watched two of them rappel to Winter Wall and climb the 5.6 sport route there a couple times.

We wandered over to Main Wall for a little bit, where it turned out I knew a lot of the people there. It was a nice respite. Later on in the day, attitudes washed away and we were all able to get along again. It's still going to be a while before I go climbing with those people again, though. Just not worth the effort when someone is willfully ignorant.

Claire decided to pick the amazing Isolation Canyon for her birthday! We camped one night, and hiked in to Finktion Wall both days. It was nice being in the sun; Main Wall seemed very shady, and with the wind that hit once in a while, the sunny Finktion Wall was perfect.

Day One, we all took turns climbing the four climbs I have listed. Day Two, Ryan and I rapped down to Winter Wall to try out a trad route. We ended up climbing something that we had no beta on, but looked good enough. I followed him up, having a rough moment with a piece under a roof. Think: piece on the left directly under roof, with rope 180 degrees from there.. I didn't want to swing out, so somehow managed to scrunch myself under it, using my feet, head and shoulders as tension, while using two hands to remove a cam that had lodged itself inside the crack! At the top I felt relieved, with a sense of accomplishment! I may now be addicted to crack. ;) Definitely visiting the area again this season.
