| | | Betty Cracker |
 | Toprope | 5.9 | | | | | | | | You Don't Know Jack... |
 | Toprope | 5.9 | | | | | | | Camped Saturday night and then got into the canyon late (it was FREEZING at night, so we waited until things warmed up). Everything is fairly well flooded, but it's still possible to climb at most of the crags. We tried Swiss Wall first, but it was too cold (this was after traversing the creek and falling in the mud a lot and getting scraped up). I'm still not reacting well to heat or the sun, so we went to Cracker Jack instead. It's mostly in the sun, but a huge boulder and a tree do provide some shade.
I tried TR'ing Betty Cracker, but the left layback resulted in a weird right wrist twinge that led to numbness, same as what happened the last time I was at Northern Devils. Not cool. I climbed the rest of the route on face holds, then taped up before attempting You Don't Know Jack. This felt much better, and was much more fun. At the top of the route (essentially in an undercling above the anchors) there's a really cool half ammonite sticking out of the limestone. Next time I'll bring a camera.
Stayed out of the sun for the rest of the day and kept hydrated. There was some great work being done over at Six Shooter (5.12a) so James TR'ed a large section of it. This was much-needed for him, since he's been focusing on all these easy climbs recently. Having some other guys there who can climb harder and really challenge him helps a great deal.
It was really awesome to come hang out w/ our crazy group this weekend! I haven't gotten to climb with Jbeans in waaaay too long. I couldn't lead today, so she will get to lead belay me (for the first time!) at some point in the near future. |
