had declared no playdates sunday so i could watch olympic track & field
when i found out mike and fletch were going to the pit, invited myself along
got up there around 9:00 and found there has been a new parking area established for the pit and sandy's canyon
just a quarter mile west of the old one and clearly signed
you can still park near the campground in the lot nearest the road, but limited spaces
only a 3/4 mile approach
i've never seen so many people climbing there; perhaps perfect weather had something to do with that?
grabbed popeye (5.9) for a warm up climb
next up was mr. slate (5.10b), which i got cleanly for the first time - very happy about that
this climb has given fletch fits, and she got it on a second try at the roof
next, mike & fletch wanted to try true value (5.11a), which features a difficult roof pull
all of us struggled on the roof, with fletch having the best technique
i made it up, but it was ugly
moved over to sporte (5.10c) on the white wall
this one has a smaller roof, which i did not get cleanly, having to take
better style on finishing this one
good technique, and it's doable next time
two new routes with some harder stuff
warm in the sun, but had a little shade in the afternoon
just a great day to be up there :)
