AMC meetup scheduled an event at this lightly used area near Flagstaff. The area is listed as a TRAD area but there is excellent top roping available for TRAD anchors.

Climbing was hard and the levels are what you expect from an older area. We set and climbed 5.7 and 5.8 but most felt like 5.9 or 5.10. The climbing was excellent, however, with almost every route featuring some sort of crack climbing. There were routes that required a full skill set of moves such as stemming, layback, mantles, and various crack techniques. For me, this was a true delight to be able to solve so many different problems on TR. I didnt solve them all, however, and there is plenty of challenge left on this wall.

The event was exremely well organized, esp. for a climbing event. We had 12 people including two experienced leads that knew the area. Six routes were set up with TR anchors that everybody got to participate in building. There was only one bolted anchor so there was a lot of creative tree and rock pro used as well as several cams. Everything was tectbook stout and double and tripple checked. WE rapped down and started to climb the routes in the morning shade. With 12 people, everybody had a partner and there was always a rope. We climbed until we dropped and then recharged at Beaver Street Brewery.

Great outing in the forest near Flagstaff.
