hit the overlook with mike and fletch
one of the few places open within reasonable driving distance
hadn't been there in five years :o had no idea it was that long ago

duck soup - 5.7 on mountain project
mike led, fletch and i followed on most routes
always takes me a climb or two to get the feel for rock
basalt is a little different, too

burnt buns - 5.8
some skillz i need work on: stemming and crack
didn't get this one clean

morning's mourning - 5.8
same story, didn't quite get this one clean either

answered prayers - 5.9
more face climbing with better hands
got this one clean
my favorite of the day and first time i've been on it

orange out direct - 5.9 on mountain project
mike led, i followed and cleaned, fletch didn't do this one
did well down low and on the first smaller roof
climbed the big roof better last time
so not clean, but felt good about most of it and would love to do it again

we set up a rap line, rapping down after each climb
four routes mike belayed from above while the follower cleaned
trailed a line for the third on two routes
we all did answered prayers on toprope
a 60 meter rope was more than enough

beautiful day up north
had a great time as always with mike and fletch
the drive back was good, too

awesome day at the overlook with my buddy mike
he is an excellent trad leader and i had the good fortune to follow
don't really want to do four separate triplogs, so will just list the climbs we did
started on obediah, 5.9 90 feet
moved to burnt buns, 5.8 80 feet
next was morning mourning, 5.8 80 feet
then my favorite of the day, orange out direct
this climb featured a double roof near the top
simply awesome to figure out how to pull it
mike wanted to lead his favorite, isiah, 5.10 70 feet
i decided to try it and thrashed my way up
finished with an easier fun one, angels delight, 5.7 100 feet - cool traverse
great day working some challenging routes, and learning how to climb crack more efficiently
had the entire place to ourselves sunday

I don't know jack about crack :(

Joined a group of AMC folks for day of TR climbing. Weather is perfect with light cool breezes and of course the shade in the trees was great. These two routes were not completed as both have long hand jam cracks near the top and I do not have the crack skills to climb them. Lacking the skill set, I lack the confidence in the jam when I do make it and have visions of falling and breaking the wrist that is jammed. :scared:

Also climbed Angels Delight and Normally urgent - both 5-8.

Overlook routes are long so we don't get as many routes in a day but there is a lot more climbing per route. During the day there was stemming, thin face climbs, dihedrals, arets, and usually 2-3 cruxes per route. I had the most fun on a couple of balance face moves similar gym moves which I though I would never use outside. The area grades are old school meaning you can add 1 or 2 to the grade to compare it to a Jacks's

Had a great day climbing and carpooling with Cheryl who turns out to be a fellow hiker that climbs.
