john and i were planning to climb at upper devil's today, but just as we got there, an ominous looking storm front was passing through
we retreated to los hermanos for breakfast, then decided we would climb at the mine area, which has easier access and a quicker exit if needed
experienced a few bouts of graupel falling
found our short warm up climb then went to upper looner for ol solo meo
last time we were here, i couldn't lead this one
did today, but not in good style
john led it, then i top-roped it again
we seem to have trouble finding things we are comfortable climbing here
wandered around a bit, but were chilled and not feeling it, so took off
still a fun day, just too cold for me

Snow kidding - we were climbing in occassional fluries. We were looking forward to upper devils but there was a storm cloud lurking and waiting for us...plus the tempreature was low, the wind high and upper devils is east facing so we exited. We went to Los Hermans and plotted our next move over an omlete and frijoles.

Decided to give the mine area (upper/lower loonie) a try and headed back up the canyon.

We had our usual route finding issues and every moderate looked death defying runout on the starts.

Led a couple of moderates and then called it a day. Thanks to Kelly for toughing this one and getting some climbing done.

Friendly beginner lead with slippery sart
Perfect day in Queen creek. Kelly and I had the place to ourself most of the day. Only other climber was self belaying but finished his climb and left, The mine area is away from the road so we didnt have much traffic noise and instead had the sound of running water in the creek.

I think Kelly was skeptical after last week wehn I put her on a 10C lead while believing that it was a 5. :scared: She wasnt buying my story that we were on a 5.6 until I led it. Then she got her confidence and the next route (different triplog was awesome.

Went over to this area. Made it up a fun 5.9 before it started raining and we bailed on the day.

First real outdoor rock climbing was a blast. Nice big group with a mix of skills. Several of the experienced leads set up top ropes for 5.6, 5.7, 5.8 and 5.10 and then the rest of us spent the day working the various routes. I tried and made 4 from 5.6 to 5.8 although none of them clean. In fact, my effort on the 5.8 probably counts as a new route given the considerable deviance from the route. Never the less, great fun on a beautiful spring day
