Perfect day for a hike! Not a cloud in the sky and forecasted high of mid 80s (highest of the year). Started just after 9:30 AM and the views of Mt. St. Helens were great from the start. As we climbed, Rainier, Hood and Adams all appeared as well. Ran into snow just before the Loowit trail but just a patch. Continued on about another mile to the Plains of Abraham in search of a lupine meadow but did not see it. We ran into a nice big snow field right next to a small spring and we suspect the snow was covering the lupine meadow. It still made for a nice lunch spot and we took a nice hour long break, enjoying the views and quiet. Wildflowers along the trail were out in full force -- too bad me and my camera don't take flower pictures too well.....

Took advantage of the nice weather to take the Ape Canyon trail after seeing a recent post about the same hike. Cloudy when we left Vancouver this morning but the weather could not have been better on the mountain. Nice widl flowers at the start of the trail as well as great views of Mt. St. Helens. Not far from connection with the Loowit trail snow appeared. Since my wife didn't have her trekking poles we decided not to risk it on the snowy slopes. But we had great views of Ranier, Adams, Hood and of course Mt. St. Helens. Lots of bikers and hikers on the trail today. Had wanted to get to the plains of Abraham but will have to try again. Definitely will do this hike again. Great views, nice trail, nice weather - can't beat that day!
