| no partners | | Initially intended on trying to get up to Rock Lakes/Serene Lakes area for a possible overnight trip, but I got a later start than anticipated. Ended up settling for a loop hike through Cache Meadows. Still brought my overnight gear and considered spending the night, but decided against it at the last minute.
Expected to encounter snow at the trailhead, but it was completely dry- so I opted to leave the snowshoes behind (which was a very good choice in retrospect). Trail was completely dry below 3800', where I started to encounter patchy snow. By 4100' the snow was pretty consistent and when I hit Cache Meadow at 4300' it was a full blown winter wonderland. Temps in the 30s and sunny all day, couldn't have picked a better time for this. Definitely want to come back to camp at Cripple Creek Meadow/Lake as there are a couple of nice campsites along the shoreline. |
