Took a chance and headed up to Eagle Peak Saddle today. Got some partial views of the mountain but nothing like we had last year on our first visit. Still we had a great day. Saw a marmot up close and personal on the way down. Then saw a group of 5 deer along the trail as well. Young ones were playing around and running in circles while the adult deer were content to keep eating away. A fair number of people on the trail today but it didn't feel too crowded. Hard to find solitude on a day hike in the park during peak tourist season. Still a fair amount of snow in the section before the final switchbacks up the meadow toward the saddle. A fair number of boot tracks but I find it handy to have my GPS to keep going in the right direction. Plus it helped that we had hiked this trail last fall so we were somewhat familiar with it. Lots of bear grass and avalanche lily out along the trail. All in all, a nice day out hiking.

Had this hike on my radar for awhile and finally got it done. Beautiful day on the mountain today. Trail is up all the way but in good shape overall. I'd say about 80% of it is shaded as well which is nice. Views of Hood, Adams, St. Helens and of course Rainier on this nice fall day. Saw several people out on the trail today but it didn't feel crowded. Even had some alone time at the saddle where we enjoyed a nice lunch with a great view. We'll definitely be back.
