Start of a 4 day trip to West Texas, with the primary focus being Big Bend National Park. My friend Paul had never been to either the Davis Mountains or Big Bend, so I knew he was in for a pleasant surprise. :) I visited Fort Davis last year, but since Paul is into frontier history, this was an absolute must stop. I didn't get to see the base hospital last year, so was able to complete my tour of the once massive post this time around. :D I wanted to stay at the Indian Lodge at adjacent Davis Mountains State Park, so we got a room there the first night. After touring Fort Davis we went to Alpine to stock up on supplies, before heading down to Big Bend.

Visited this place with my mom back in 1986. Decided to go back and look at it more extensively. Pretty awesome grounds. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
