If we had hiked Mt. Mitchell before we might have gone but there will be lots of chances for that hike as it warms up. We started at the Bonneville Trailhead around 9 AM. Gillette Lake was nice -- the color of the water was nice. Had it been a little sunnier we might have got a better picture. From the lake we went up to Greenleaf Overlook and continued past it about another half mile when it crossed a road. That was our turn around point for the day. Saw a few people but all in all, a fairly quiet hike, especially for the Gorge. The wind was whipping up as usual but it was only when we stopped for lunch that we got a little chilly. |
