This hike, Heybrook Ridge about an hours drive east of Everett, WA, was likely a run of the mill hike for the Cascades, but it wowed me with the density of the trees, free-flowing water, wild berries, and many other types of plants seen along the trail. The trail started at a well maintained parking lot on the outskirts of a town named Index and climbed up the ridge via a series of switchbacks developed and maintained by the Washington Trails Association - kudos to them for doing such a great job. The overgrowth remained pretty think through the beginning and middle portions of the trail but began to thin out as you approached the top of the ridge. Once up on the ridge the views were awesome. The coolest thing I saw was some random waterfall from the snow melt on a nearby mountain. The hike itself was short, but with some steep sections. Overall a very nice hike with great scenery. |
