Started the lollipop loop from there heading a short distance on the AT about a mile toward the summit and stopped at the AT viewing platform. From there headed over to the monument and decided to climb the 220 plus stairs to the top. I thought the views were as good from the base of the monument as the windows were small and dirty making picture quality poor. After descending headed over to join the monument loop trail which is rocky with an occasional steep parts , rated as strenuous but would consider it moderate took me back to where I started the AT. Seemed to have a little better views of the Delaware River and it also crosses a park road beside the parks lake. Though it was warm and muggy the trail was shaded enough to be pleasant. Did not have any tick, gnat or fly problem but used a ton of insect spray. |
