| no partners | | After some heavy hiking and backpacking in the Bitterroots, CJ and I took our show north to grizzly country and the Bob Marshall Wilderness. I completed this little hike after a 34 mile backpack we did from the Holland Lake trailhead. Carrie stayed back on this one because the pup was not needing anymore miles added on to her day after our 34 mile 7k romp through the Bob.
The trail is in great shape and popular. There are some excellent views and shoreline hiking along the beautiful Lower Holland Lake, but the falls are definitely the attraction. The impressive, thundering falls come into view just before your first mile is complete, but you still need to do some more hiking to get to them. There is a small climb to the falls, but still definitely family friendly and non avid hiker friendly. The falls were awesome and definitely worth the quick side trip. It was a perfect ending to an awesome backpack.
We had planned for a third day in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, but the area we had pegged for a couple of day hikes was completely obliterated by the devastating mega Rice Ridge Fire that was the result of two forest fires merging. The forest fire burned from July of last year to mid October. No worries though, after logging over a 170 miles of hiking and backpacking over these last ten days up here, we could use maybe a little recovery day before starting our Sawtooths portion of this trip. |
