One little snowy patch that we did with just boots on our way up but used microspikes on the way down since it was getting soft (and because we had them). Falls were roaring and beautiful. Couldn't ask for better reward so early into a hike. Continued on toward the lake. Lots of switchbacks as this is where you gain the elevation. Last 3/4 mile or snow is totally snow covered. Fortunately there was a path to follow. Soft snow made for slow going but if you took your time it was do-able. In fact, we saw a couple guys with just jean, t-shirts and sneakers coming down right before we got to the lake! More power to them but microspikes were life savers today. Lake is about 90% covered in snow and so beautiful. Could hear avalanches on the other side of the lake every now and then. Just gorgeous up there. I'd recommend going earlier in the day while the snow is harder. |
