First Hike of Day 5 in the Columbia River Gorge. I got an early start so even with the stop at Rooster Rock State Park first, there were still very few people at the Falls yet. This area is part of the Guy W. Talbot State Park so after I did the Falls loop, I did a little loop on the other side of the highway. The waterfalls (lower and upper) were sweet and it was nice to hike in an unburned area this time. Just could not get over the green, the moss, the lichen, all the different flora with some wildflowers still going, the trees and did I mention all that green? Spring greens were hanging in there too. The old growth forest is just unlike anything I had ever experienced and it was magical. I could only imagine that some of the other hikes I did could look like that also, if they hadn't burned. 920 AEG as the official seems high, so I went with the number I got.

So much touristing! Pretty amazing part of the world though. Did the full Latourell loop before a short break at the Portland Womens Forum on the way back. The upper falls were tough to capture due to lighting. The lower falls are quite impressive. They looked higher to me than Multnomah, but obviously they aren't! Something about that narrow stream with an uninterrupted fall that really impresses. Definitely worth the hike if you're out here getting in touch with your inner Griswold.

Strong mist. Didn't attempt getting too close. I'm sure it can be much more treacherous. No children were lost while I was watching.

Just a quick trip to both the upper and lower falls in order to get a GPS log for the hike page. :)
