It starts out along an old road. We reached where the trail starts off to the left but I thought that wasn't the correct way, so we continued along the road. Eventually the road ended and we had to bushwack about 100 yards to the trail. The brush was pretty thick and difficult to cross, but it was mostly huckleberry bushes loaded with ripe berries so it wasn't all that bad. Once we reached the ridge where the trail drops to Margaret Lake, we followed a trail across the ridge to GCD.
For the return, we followed the trail back that we should have followed on the ascent. It was steep in places and slippery so there was a couple of mishaps but nothing damaging. There was some nice views of Mt. Rainier from the trail as the weather was nice and the skies blue with good visibility. |
