The summit of Mount Pisgah can be reached by two trails of similar length, the North Trail and the South Trail. We chose the South. The trail begins just off VT 5A, which runs between Lake Willoughby and the shear face of Mount Pisgah. After crossing a swampy area via wooden bridge, the trail begins to climb, steeply at times. A steep drop to your left is mostly obscured by trees. Approximately half way to the summit, Pulpit Rock is encountered, which is a rock overhang some 650 feet above the lake. As the summit nears, the trail crosses a section of exposed rock - follow the painted markings. The summit itself offers no views and is marked by a sign indicating an elevation of 2,751 feet (a climb of 1590 feet). Continue on a short distance to visit three overlooks with fantastic views of the lake and surrounding land.

The trail is well-marked and maintained. No scrambling is required, though some sections can be quite steep. Be prepared to encounter some mud, as there appear to be active springs on the mountain.
