| no partners | | Mostly sunny at the north trailhead at around 11 AM. Windy, but the weather looked like it would hold. Once we got up into the wooded area, the wind wasn't really a factor. Trail was muddy in places and there were several blow downs, one of which was tight fit to go under. As we neared the summit, the clouds/fog rolled in and the wind really picked up. The view from the summit was not. Just a mass of white clouds/fog. We met another couple who had come up from the south trailhead and they reported the same thing: great weather at the bottom but like us, disappointed to see no views at all at the top. Had a quick bite to eat but with the rain increasing and the weather showing no signs of letting up, we headed back down. As we were staying the night in Seaside, we took a nice side trip to Youngs River Falls. Beautiful falls with lots of crystal clear water. And this time the weather cooperated with the sun coming out. Back in Seaside the evening was windy but very nice. Clouds did come in but still managed a nice sunset. Perhaps the Neahkahnie Mountain hike is best done late in the afternoon..... |
