We did 3 different hikes on this stretch of trail, between rains. Mostly between...

This is a great place to walk, bike, roller blade, etc. The path appears to end just north of Donkey Beach, but apparently it continues all the way to Anahola beach. We took the trail for a ways past the apparent end just to see how it was. Much of it is so overgrown that we couldn't see the trail. The tall grasses from beside the trail cover the trail about eye level. The trail exists, just it's hard to see. Much of it, even if the trail isn't covered, has such tall grasses on both sides that the view is totally blocked.

Don'y get me wrong, up until the apparent end above Donkey Beach, it's a great ocean walk.

This trail now goes from Central Kapaa (at the Watkaea Canal and you can walk on back streets even further South than that) to Kealia Kai for a 4.5 mile hike. It is right on the ocean, so has a great view. Unfortunately the first 2.5 miles has the highway fairly close. But most of the time the car sounds are hidden by the sounds of the surf. We did this hike 3 times during our stay, and the roar of the ocean was enough on all hikes.

The southern area of the hike from Kapaa to Kealia Beach has a fair amount of hikers, runners and bikers. But north of Kealia there are few others. So much so that after sundown the trail is spooky. This trail is best done when the day is overcast as there is almost no shadow until very late afternoon. The trail is concrete from Kealia Beach south and asphalt north of there.

An interesting point on the northern portion of the trail is the Pineapple Dump. Years ago a train used to bring the waste from a canning facility to this location and dump it in the ocean. I guess it made Kapaa very popular with the sharks. At least that's what I found on the web. All that's left is a concrete structure sort of like a short pier ending above the water's edge.
