Big Creek Falls lived up to its name today. The falls were roaring! And Otter Falls had more water than we've ever seen. Trail was in good condition. A few creek crossing but nothing too bad although water proof shows would be a good idea. Not too hot, not too cold. A good day for a short 10 mile trek. As others have mentioned, restrooms are still closed for the season.

After yesterday's long, hot hike I looked for something close to home to stretch the legs. And with smoky conditions predicted I thought a forest or riverside hike would be best to I picked a trip to Otter Falls. Didn't see anybody until just before Otter Falls. Well, more like Otter pond because there was no water on the falls but the pond gave off a perfect reflection and it was still pretty so it was worth the short side trip. And since the last time we were here, somebody made a great stone sign on the ground along with a rock arrow -- can't miss the turnoff now. Big Creek Falls was flowing but even if it was a faint copy of what we saw when we last did this hike during the winter months when it was gushing. It still made for my turnaround point today. While there were no views today, I did see more wildlife than I thought I would. A cool frog on the trail, trout in one of the creek and the highlight of today's hike -- a majestic owl just before Marten Creek.

Cloudy and some sprinkles, but nothing we're not used to in Seattle. Trail follows the river for most of the trip. Unofficial side trail to Otter Creek Falls is well marked by some rock cairns. Big Creek Falls lived up to its name -- it was roaring! It made for a good turnaround spot. With little elevation gain, this makes for a fairly easy hike even though it's 10+ miles.
