After Yucca House we drove over to Mesa Verde National Park. Kind of a mixed bag for us. Apparently April is too early for much of the park. Much of it doesn’t open until early or mid May. This includes all the walkable ruins (Spruce Tree House, Balcony and Cliff Palace - the last two are guided tours starting May 8th, I think). Also the Weatherill Road and Morefield Campground were closed. This wasn’t a huge deal as we got there midday, the wife wasn’t interested in hiking and it was very cold and windy. Still a lot to see. Stopped at most of the lookouts on the drive up and along the Chapin and Balcony House loops. We didn’t get much walking in but between the lookouts, Park Point and what we could access at the Spruce Tree House probably got close to 1 mile of “hiking”. The views were great, but the weather really added to the experience.
