I woke up early to run the rim trail, and loved nearly ever bit of it. A neat thing the city of Page did to have a complete loop around the entire city.

Early morning run. Got out around 6am. Started from a TH west of the airport . There is a connector trail from the TH to the Rim Trail that is about .15 miles long. Took the Rim Trail CCW. Real nice trail to run. The views are fantastic for most of the loop and the trail is very engaging as dips and twists following the contours of the rim. Trail was easy to follow for the most part. The lone exception was the southern tip. At this point the trail actually crosses over the top of the plateau. There is no trail marker, though there is a shaded bench that you can use to guide you as a reference point. I wasn't sure, so I jogged along the southern tip of the plateau. Didn't see any trail markers, but I did see some cool rock formations along the edge. I was almost always in sight of the homes of Page, but the views still astound. There is more of an isolationist feeling on the east side. Not bad for a "city" trail. Saw 3 hikers a biker and a trail runner (lot less than I expected). Weather perfect. Wildlife included rabbits and chipmunks.

I'll soon be moving here to Page, so after seeing about my new job today I decided to take a hike on the local workout trail, which basically wraps around the little town. The place where I'll be living has direct access to the trail, so that's nice. There is not much AEG to it, though. Good views! It might be fun on a bike.

After our Hanging Gardens walk, and lunch at Fiesta Mexicana -- on the patio despite hurricane force winds -- I walked the northern part of the Page Rim Trail, figuring to get some good photos of the Colorado River, Glen Canyon Dam and the bridge. The views of the Colorado River were indeed beautiful, but the dam and bridge were so small, especially in relation to the relatively short distance from the rim, that they really did not look good in the pictures at all. Certainly not worth posting. That is before I :pk:d the photos.

As to the trail itself, it disappeared in spots, or was hard to follow, especially where the http://hikearizona.com/gps=12110 lasso exits and rejoins the stem. It was no big deal -- you can't get lost there -- I just wanted to avoid traipsing across country. There was also two very massive cairns on the loop. I laid down on my stomach to contrast one against the blue sky, and make it appear even more massive. A jogger stopped to ask if I was okay. That seems to happen to me a lot. Do I really look that much like I am doing Fred Sanford on the trail?

Ran from my house up to the Old McDonald's. I guess I was off-trail before because the actual NW section of the Rim Trail is pretty. It winds around the outside of the golf course and I had it all to myself. This week (or weekend) I will be running the whole "short" loop - the entire Rim Trail minus the Potato Hill loop. About 9 miles or so. That means I should break 70 miles for the YTD this month. Wow! I don't think I've done this much so early before. Legs are feeling good.

Huff to Bluff Training Day 11. Tomorrow is a 5 miler, then the distances really start to amp up!

Huff to Bluff Training Day 10. The north side of the trail isn't nearly as bad as I reported earlier. I guess I wasn't on the main trail. Nice day for a run. 1 hour 3 minutes on the trail, including a 3 minute break at the turn-around point.
Broke 50 miles for the year today. Tomorrow is a three miler and then a 5 on Saturday. Good times.

Huff to Bluff training day 9. Tomorrow I start stepping up the daily run distance. Tomorrow is 4 miles - not too bad. Saw a bunny in a neighbor's yard. GPS track differs from triplog distance due to SPOT tracking and the fact I didn't want to start my track in my front yard. This trail running stuff is actually fun!

Huff to Bluff Training Day 8. A bit over 7 miles. Legs feel real good, and it was a gorgeous day to get out and about. I can't wait until the mileage increases to where I can just do a complete loop.

H2B Training Day 6. Almost didn't make it out, but decided I had enough time. To make up for missing yesterday (meetings from 4:30-8), I decided to do the slightly longer loop. Was a bit slow. :( Trying to decide if I should run tomorrow and do the 7 miler on Satuday, run tomorrow and do the 7 miler on Sunday, or skip tomorrow and do the 7 miler on Sunday. I don't like that option very much. I'm leaning towards Saturday as the day of rest.

H2B Training Day 4: My longest run ever, although my previous record holder (a four mile run) was done with a 40lbs pack on for the FS Pack Test. My pack today was much lighter - just my Camelbak Lobo with some water to keep me hydrated. Tomorrow is cross training and that'll cap my first week of training. Next week; three 3 milers and one seven miler. Legs feel good - used but not abused.
