| no partners | | | I did this solo hike as an out and back incorporating a few miles of the PCT. I hiked the switchbacks up to the base of Pilot rock at the chute and stopped there. It looked pretty dicey to climb up the chute to the top. I'd started out at 8:00 and the clouds were very low and it was overcast which killed any views. I hiked back down to the PCT and took it north for about a mile where it crossed over a clear saddle. The clouds had cleared somewhat at this point and I could view Pilot Rock and the valley below to the south. I headed back south on the PCT past the turn off for Pilot Rock and then doubled back. The hike came in at 5.2 miles with 1,300 feet of AEG in 2 hours and 10 minutes. |
