Recently I compiled a to-do list of all the hikes, waterfalls, and other adventures I want to go on in the PNW. This was at the top of the list, so I headed out today to mark it off.
Beautiful day, couldn't have asked for better weather. All the smoke that was covering the city over the last couple of days had blown out, leaving bright blue skies and whispy white clouds. The weather in Portland was the mid eighties, but at the trailhead it was a perfect 70 degrees!
This trail really has it all- multiple gorgeous deep lakes, fantastic views, beautiful meadows, and yet its not overcrowded! The 2 hour drive from Portland and the rocky last 4 miles of the dirt road do a great job discouraging all but the most ambitious hikers. I'm already making plans to do an easy backpacking trip here- I have my eye on a campsite on the shore of Serene Lake that has a weathered picnic table! |
