Great day hike. Catching up on my log. I do recall the mass amount of bugs at the top though.

This is a great hike. The weather this day was perfect ... well at least for July. It was overcast and stayed between 75 and 85 degrees. There is plenty of tree cover along this trail and that helped too. It was just myself and my dog Molly, an Aussie. We got to the bench in just over an hour. Then on top at the tool shed at 1.5 hrs. The trail to the Sedona overlook was not too far and well worth the extra effort. The pine forest on top must have been incredible at one time. It still is but, the fire and drought have taken a toll. We took the Oak Creek overlook trail as well but turned around after about 20 minutes because I ran out of time. I will plan to spend more time on top exploring next time, as others have recommended. This summit would be a great overnight backpacking trip too. Have fun!
