Went on a ranger guided hike early in the AM. The weather was fantastic and the flowers are getting ready to explode! :)

Nice short hike with some pools of water near the corral.

Started at about 7:30am and all the poppies were still closed. Most of the way up was in the shade, which was nice. We stopped and talked to a bunch of hikers and took our time looking at all the flowers. After the siphon we turned right and headed up a bluff that overlooks the park with a nice sheer drop of about 1500 ft. What a view! Didn't end up going all the way to the flatiron but will have to try again.

The brittle bushes and globe mallows are all budding and in a week or so the entire area will be orange and yellow! Probably some extreme color!

This hike was really nice! My first time to the area and loved it! The poppies were blooming and everything was SO GREEN! I took a student of mine and her younger sister 14yrs and 10yrs and they did really well. We turned back at the waterfall because they didn't have the shoes for it.

Went as far as the snow line. Had a close call slipping on the ice and headed back down. There were some amazing views of Roosevelt and the drive was really nice. Got some pics of some wild flowers :D

Hiked to the See Canyon Spring and back. What a beautiful hike! The colors aren't quite at their peak, but close. Will go again next weekend. Didn't see anyone on the way up and only a family on the way back.

Once we got up to the spring, there were gunshots not too far off. Not sure if they were calibrating their scope or hunting or what... Got kind of nervous and turned back.

Evidence of some idiots carving into trees and trying to chop down a maple... :(

Pictures soon to come!

I have hiked Grand Falls on numerous occasions and every time it is different. Be prepared to get dirty and the Moenkopi does not wash out of your clothes! :)

I have never been disappointed on any visit to the falls, whether it be wet or dry. When the Little Colorado is not running it is really awesome to hike around and see what the water has done to the limestone deposits. One interesting feature is the cylindrical holes that are created by the water. During a wet visit, a friend was walking across the first tier and I warned him about these holes. Next thing I knew, he fell down into one and came up covered in what looked like chocolate milk (my poor upholstery!). When the falls are at a trickle, you get the chance to stand under the water or even venture behind the falls and get a view of some beautiful rainbows. During the monsoon season, I will call up my friends that live in Leupp and ask them is the Lil Colorado is running hard. During peak flow, you can stand on the rim of the canyon and get completely covered in silt.

I have also been to Grand Falls during some of my geology classes from NAU. Interesting geology!

One of my favorite places!!

From Phoenix we drove through Superior and south to Catalina State Park. The drive was a lot more scenic than I-10! It was quite warm but the patches of shade were awesome! The wildflowers were starting to bloom with quite a lot of poppies. Best to take Tevas if you don't want to get your feet wet. Awesome weather and great views of desert landscapes.
