We began be heading down make shift trail full of slippery mud a moss covered rock (I fell the most here). Once on canyon bottom it was easy moving along the bigger than average boulder. There was snow all over the creek bed which made for some interesting boulder hopping and I am fortunate to have not fallen into the icy water. Once the basalt rock formations appeared it was fun trying to keep our feet dry and having to skirt our way around wide section of water. There is ample opportunity to take the hard way around every rock section making for some bouldering in route to the only major drop off at the water gauge. It's a 40ft waterfall the you can down climbed on right side via a few ledges. However we choose to rappel it using the tree by the water gauge as a anchor. The rock was really slippery at this time and it made for a few close calls while rappelling. we tried to climb out using the right side but the rock was breaking apart which there a was evidence all around that this had done so recently. So we opted to use the easier route on the left which would be a mild 5.4 climb to the top. We did not proceed to Woods canyon due to time restrictions. All in all this was a fun hike through an easy to navigate canyon. |
