| no partners | | Wonderful day for a hike in Northern Arizona. We drove up on Friday to escape the heat and get a couple of hikes in. We got started about 8 in the morning and to my surprise my wife wanted to go up Humphreys Peak so I consented. I had previously made the trip and I warned her about the altitude and difficulty of the hike. Well we made it up to above the no camping sign at 11,400 and got caught in the rain for most of the journey back to our truck. We got some hot chocalate from the friendly folks at the lodge. Overall a fantastic day in the Arizona high country. |

Never done this loop and had been to Weaver's crosscut once before but we are getting ready for the Grand Canyon and wanted a good cross country hike with distance. We were not disappointed and got a fantastic day to hike. Went by the Miners Needle and crossed or traversed many streams on this day even had lunch by a peaceful waterfall. |

| no partners | | We have been hiking on New Years day for the past three years and found it is a grat way to start the year. This year we decided to explore La Barge Canyon since we could find our way back to the lake because the lake bed was dry. We started from the trailhead on a windy day that cut right through at times. We found periods of refuge from the wind at certain sections on the trail and quickly made it to point he trail crosses the creek bed. This is the first time we have seen water in the creek and we enjoyed a lunch next to the peaceful waters. We saw a few other groups at this junction headed to Second Water. We found our way through the canyon boulder hopping and crossing the stream many times. It got challenging around the junction with Boulder Canyon and we tried a couple of routes before we made it through some steep rocks and deep pools. Later we were not as fortunate as we came to a spot in the canyon that was about 2 to 3 feet deep and no way that we saw to cross. I carried our packs across the 60 to 70 foot channel and then carried my wife. A little ways up we had a 10 foot channel and did the same. We saw a family that had hiked way back and told them that was the end unless they wanted to get wet. We came out into the empty channel that goes under the second bridge by the marina. |
