| no partners | | 2 days of rain prior to our trip. Fire roads up to the gate were no problem. We opted for the 4x4 pilot vs. the tacoma for comfort reasons (5 people). Wow we needed the extra 2"-3" of clearance. Mud was clay-like sticky and just packed on. Just a few points in the road we could crawl over some of the larger rocks but had to scrape on a few. We stopped and decided to hike the final 2 miles to the trailhead to save the vehicle. When we reached the trail the trail was steep (a little tricky after the rains), I would say comparable to walking up a staircase the whole way. Only 20 min long. Nice area down below. Holiday weekend and absolutely no-one around passed the gate. The fire roads up to the gate we saw non-stop toy haulers, campers, etc...After the gate the roads got tough. Deer, cattle, and usual animals seen throughout the hike. We turned a 1 mile round trip hike into a 5 mile (because we didn't drive all the way to the trail). But a beautiful day and my 6 year old could do it so not really a problem. |
