We couldn't quite drive all the way to the trailhead as the road became too pitted and rocky so we parked our van about 0.4 miles back and had a bit of an extra hike. The views from the upper canyon were great...in certain spots you can see down to the bottom and see the water. The hike down was rocky but not too difficult for Mom, Dad wearing baby and our 7yo and 9yo kids. We had a blast crawdad fishing at the bottom of the trail at the swimming hole and the landscape was picturesque with the high rock walls, green vegetation and trees and bending creek. And a heavy but quick monsoon shower rounded out our day. Hiking back out wasn't as fun (is the "up" part ever?? lol) but wasn't too bad and we were soon back at the van. Definitely a fun day trip and great for the kids with fishing and swimming at the midway point! |
