Hiked from top where swimming pools to a nice camp site. Did 3 total rappels - 1 short , one longer into a nice large pool and the last one behind a waterfall. Last section was a bit technical but mainly due to being tired. Total time from start to finish about 5 hours, all in the water until just before confluence and then camped. Followed Christopher Creek down to Spring Creek, followed Spring out and back to main Highway 260.

Did WCC #17 for the second time in a about a month. The bug situation is really insane when you get to river crossing #4, wonder if this is a seasonal thing, a special for this year or just bad timing, but it was really bad on both trips.

This time I took my dog Zoe on the hike. She is a Border Collie with some Lab in her, rescued her in April this year and wanted to get her out in the country. She is typically afraid of water, but the intense heat of the mid day sun helped to ease her fear or trauma of water (previous owner was abusive) and she has the making of a great trail dog.

There is always a good crowd of people at the trailhead and for the first 1-3 miles you will see day hikers, sun bathers, but going in farther to crossing 3 and 4 the people fade away and it becomes quite peaceful.

Easy hike in and out, 2 hours each way to the 4th crossing. I got in early on Friday, started at 12noon, not the best idea, Zoe was heating up pretty bad but we got to the first water hole and then crossing #1 and she was fine from there out. My buddy got in late Friday and actually night hiked into the 4th crossing to find us relaxing.

Dog friendly hike.

Began trip on Saturday, hiked to just past creek crossing #4. Very easy hike, took almost 3 hours in, however, stopped at several swimming pools, explored the area. On the way in, kept close to the creek and actually took the horse trail for the first part of the hike, bypassing the creek crossing #1.

First night, heavy rain turned to a mini flash flood, had to pack camp and head to higher ground and wait out the storm. Next day was beautiful and sunny, hiked back to original site and stayed the night.

HIked out on Monday, made it back in 2 hours, easy hike not a lot of elevation issues.

Began the trip on Friday, car camped at trailhead. Saturday started out at 10:30AM, took 4 1/2 hours in... very up and down, a lot harder than anticipated. A lot of elevation changes, long up hill sections followed by down hill sections that make you think you are heading into the canyon and the creek, but, then you go back up again.

Once you hit the marker for the Hellsgate WIlderness, the hike has more down hill sections and one very steep last section before hitting the creek. We passed 3 hikers, 1 elderly woman who gave up no this section. Her 2 companions had taken her pack and were heading back up to help her. I was surprised she was on this trail but good for her for the effort.

Once at the bottom, we cross the creek and found a great sandy beach area at the point of the two creeks meeting. Great site, relatively flat and the sandy ground was very welcomed after the hike.

Unfortunately, we did not have enough time, so we head out the very next day knowing it would be a challenge. Left at 12 noon on Sunday and it took 6 hours out, although we did stop for a 1 hour lunch break and rest.

This is a great trail and should be done over 3 days, 1 day to hike in and set up, 1 or more days to explore as the canyon has so much to offer and then 1 day out. It is not an easy hike but well worth the effort.
