| no partners | | Another awesome adventure in West Clear Creek...Arrived at trailhead Friday morning 11-26 8am, no other souls around. Morning temp was cold, probably around 30 degrees, maybe lower. Did not hike the summit, instead, we stayed low and boulder hopped the creek. From TH, we hiked about 6.85 miles to the first decent camp site. Day 2 we day hiked/scrambled along the creek for almost 2 miles, which was slow going due to the many creek crossings and boulder hopping. Our day hike stopped when we approached the mandatory swim upstream just before Maiden Falls....wall to wall canyon, with large tree wedged in between. Returned back to camp. Both Friday and Saturday were clear and sunny with high temps around 60 and lows around 30. Woke up on day 3, Sunday November 28th, in the middle of a snow storm (at a mere 4200 feet). I initially thought the noise that woke me up was rain, but was actually pleasantly surprised/relieved to find our camp site covered in snow. As for wild life, we saw a few bald eagles Saturday around 3pm, heard a few bats after night fall, saw some bear scat on the trail, saw a few fish jumping and a few deer tracks as well. I have the GPS route if any one is interested. I did not post it because we did not hike the actual route described. |
