| no partners | | I hike on this trail nearly every Fall with my parents to join the throngs of "Leaf-Peepers". Overall this is an incredibly easy hike now that there is a bridge spanning the first creek crossing. It used to be that you had to do some rock hopping in order to get into the canyon and if the creek rose enough you could get stranded. The trail is fairly flat since it follows the creek quite closely and is marked with cairns all the way to the choke point where most people turn around.
Unfortunately due to it's accessibility, the trail and especially the parking lot are quite crowded during the peak autumn weekends. This can be avoided if you avoid these times or if you push farther up the trail. This is because at 3 miles the canyon necks down and forces you to get wet.
Personally past this is my favorite part of the canyon since the walls are much closer to a slot canyon. You can continue up the canyon another 10 miles if you wish but I've never had the inclination to go that far. |
