I took some climber-buddies down here yesterday... All 3 of them totally new to canyoneering!
This is a good place to (relatively) safely practice and teach.

I have been down here 2 times before, but the water was by FAR the lowest this time around!!!
the jumps became down-climbs, one even requiring a quick hip-belay from above. Despite the water levels, there were still a few swimmers, the final one being as cold as usual!

For anyone heading down in the future, don't count on the bolt for the first rappel being there... it seemed unsafe! There are plenty of options for natural anchors here, and at the second rappel. Risking injury isn't worth saving $5 worth of anchoring materials!

Like always, it was a good time. James Canyon definitely seems a lot longer than it is, especially in the last stretch down to Pumphouse Wash! Once we hit pumphouse wash, our 7AM start time became more reasonable, as it wasn't brutally hot once we were out of the wet.

One of my favorite canyons! Unfortunately we were a bit late in the season, and the water wasn't really flowing. (still cold though!)

We made it out there around 9AM, saddled up and headed out. It was a perfect day, though! Sun, cool water, warm air! :y: One word of caution, though, don't drop into the canyon until there's a ravine directly to the right of the road, we dropped in early, and ended up scrambling back out in a hurry!!!

We breezed through the rappels pretty quickly (just 2 of us, and I've done this canyon a couple times before) Unfortunately, my camera didn't survive this trip! :( I'll try to get a good description up for the main page, but for now, just make sure you bring enough webbing for 5 rappels (one of the anchors will require 20 feet of webbing... watch out!) the longest being around 80 feet. The first rappel can be down climbed... but it is mighty slippery. I actually seriously injured my ankle inbetween the first 2 rappels here my first time! MIGHTY slippery, especially when wet!!! :scared:
